Man Alive Book Cover

Man Alive by Patrick Morley attacks a problem that many Christian men face and one that is not easy to solve. Many men lead Christian lives that have settled into mediocrity. Morley attempts to show us that we don’t have to live that way. He lays out seven primal needs to help us walk the path from a life of settling, to feeling fully alive in our faith.

When I began reading this book, I was hoping for something new and fresh. What I got instead was a visit back to the basics of following Jesus. I was disappointed because of my expectations, but I do not want to discount the valuable content of this book. Morley does a great job of teaching the basics of salvation, discipleship, overcoming sin, and being in an active relationship with Jesus. All of these are great things that men need to learn how to do. I have been learning these things for a long time now and still have not mastered anything. It was nice to revisit these areas as I sought out new insight that might help me where I am at in these areas.

I wish I had read this book about 15 years ago. It would have been extremely helpful to me as I was learning to follow Jesus as a man. If your faith has never stretched beyond church service and prayer at the dinner table, then I definitely recommend this book to you. You may find it very challenging.
